We found Idaho Falls to be a nice littlr city which is home to one of the few high tech outfits where I could be employed, a National Energy Lab. Idaho Falls is home to a lot of Mormons who frown on drinking alcohol. We stopped for a visit to Craters of The Moon which is a firly recent volcanic area. We climbed down in some lava tubes but emerged in time cross into the Oregon Desert. I think the Oregon Desert was the most hospitable deset we have been in, with its wide valleys and colorful sunsets . We continued on down
the road until we reached the city of Bend which lies on the slopes of
Mount Batchellor . We quickly learned that the Bend area would be a wonderful place to live with 300 sunny days a year and great hiking and skiing just about any time. It is quite unfortunate that the folks from California who have too much money have discovered this earlier and pushed the real estate prices up into the clouds that shroud the volcanoes there. With no real value-added economy to support the high prices, we decided to get in a nice hike up a volcano before looking further.
