We finally outran the fires for a while when we reached the
Fraser Valley near Williams Lake, BC. A local told us about a short hike up to a point called Fraser's Thumb. A quick scramble up to the top yielded great views of the ranches below and some panoramic views of the
Fraser River.
We continued south along the historic Cariboo Highway past more
ranches. This portion of the ride required a few stops for fresh fruit being sold at the roadside farm stands before turning east through the fair city of Kamloops.
We continued on until we once again crossed the mighty Columbia via the
ferry. Yet another
scenic boatride to help us on our way.
Camp was made along one of the may reservoirs where the Columbia rests on its journey to the sea. This afforded us the opportunity for a refreshing evening
swim with a
magnificent background. Well rested after a nice dip in Halcion Hot Springs, we were ready to hit the trail again in search of more game...goats.
