The Rubbertramps Explore The Bella Coola Valley

Another sunny and very long summer day was in store for us. to explore this remote valley. The best way to descibe the valley is that it is a bit like Yosemite on steroids. Peaks leap up 10,000 feet from the sea-level valley floor! Beautiful farms line the rich riverbed. Stops along road in the valley let you look up to the glaciers hanging a mile our two above you. We did a couple of short hikes but learned quickly why the trails were limited. It's simply too steep to have trails leading up the valley walls! After our steep but brief ascents, we settled into our camp beside the Bella Coola River for a relaxing evening.

There is one road out of Bella Coola. The locals refer to it as The Hill. This dirt road has grades of up to eighteen percent as it climbs out of the valley and winds clear up to the very unpopulated interior highlands. A good place to stop for a hike in the Rainbow Range.
